Chennai, Oct 16: The Tamil Nadu unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishat and Kannada Department of Madras University jointly organised the Kannada Year and Centenary celebrations of the Sahitya Parishat recently at Cehnnai.

Kannada Sahitya Parishat Secretary C K Ramegowda, who spoke at the function, explained the activities of the Parishat and said the Parishat was immediately responding to any issue pertaining to Kannada language, Kannadigas and Karnataka.

Head of the Kannada Department of Madras University Dr Tamil Selvi, in her key-note address, said the Kannada Department of the University was one the earliest such wings in all Universities in India and lauded the activities of the Parishat.

Dr A V Prasanna, Kannada writer and Special Officer of Large and Medium Industries Minister R V Deshpande, who presided over the function, said it was a happy augury that a Kannada celebration was being held in Tamil Nadu’s State capital of Chennai. He called upon all Kannadigas to remain united and work for the cause of the language, its literature and the State.

Ms Nirmala C Yaligar, Senior Programme Officer of Doordarshan inaugurated the programme.

A panel discussion on Sahitya Parishat and a Tamil-Kannada poets’ meet were organised as part of the celebration.
