Bengaluru: 34-year-old cop stabbed to death by burglars

Bengaluru, Oct 16 (PTI): Chasing father-son duo proved fatal for a sub-inspector as he was stabbed to death today by the burglars at Nelamangala town in Bengaluru Rural district, police said.

The incident happened when 34-year-old sub-inspector, S Jagdish, attached to Doddaballapur police station, along with four constables had gone to the town to catch the father-son duo involved in crimes such as house and motorcycle thefts.

Police said the SI who was chasing the culprits got involved in a scuffle with them, slipped and fell into a barren canal following which they stabbed him with the weapon they had.

A constable, who rushed to his rescue, was injured and he is undergoing treatment at a hospital, police said.

The other three constables were scouting at a distance when the incident happened, police said, adding, the culprits managed to escape with the SI's revolver.

"Police have got into action... police department will make all efforts to trace the criminals and bring them to justice," Minister of State for Agriculture and in-charge of Bangalore Rural, Krishna Byre Gowda said.

Calling it an "unfortunate" incident, Karnataka DG & IGP Om Prakash said the SI acted "bravely" and the state police was proud of him.

"We are going to support his family to the extent possible. Rs 30 lakh ex-gratia will be paid to the family, Rs 20 lakh group insurance will be paid along with other benefits," he said.

"We will see to that his family gets full salary till his deemed date of retirement, we are going to recommend and convince the government for it. Education of his children will be taken care of. We will also recommend a gallantry medal for him," he added.

We the public only salute & pay homage to the killed, murdered souls. Enough of salutes & homages.
It's everyone of our duty to question the Government. What does it doing to control the crime in the entire state. If police officers are not safe then whom to believe for our own safety? Today police , tomorrow who knows may be you & me, our kids. Let us wake up & question the elected government.

Its failure of our system , which gives bails to repeated offenders and gives licence to them to carry out more crimes. Its better to encounter these criminals rather than arresting them as they will get easily by courts.

Its heartbreaking to see a young officer got killed.

SI Hasatti was killed by a group of four people near Ashoknagar junction on a Sunday evening. I vividly remember the details as I am also a resident of the same place. Two of the accused committed suicide and other two must be free now after serving their sentences. SI Hasatti was a non-corrupt officer, a very rare breed, in the corrupted country like India

Let us now see how many "Laddhijeevi's" will return their award and condemn the complete lawlessness in Karnataka ever since Nidderamiah's Khangress govt formed. Rapes, murders, communal violence, assaults all increased in last 2 years which is not concern for sickulars.

May God bless the departed soul this policeman and family some peace and relief. Unless there is no quick, deterrent and exemplary punishment, these crimes can never be controlled.
