Bangladesh team in Bengal for better disaster management


Kolkata, Oct 16 (IANS): Aimed at extending bilateral cooperation in disaster management, a Bangladesh army delegation on Friday visited the second battalion headquarters of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in West Bengal, an officer said.

The Bangladeshi delegation led by Colonel Mohammad Ahsanul Kabir was taken to the NDRF battalion headquarters in Haringhata in Nadia district. The delegation is visiting the country since October 12.

"The Bangladeshi delegation was given a live demonstration of search in a collapsed structure. An exhibition was also held to acquaint them with modern and sophisticated equipment used by the NDRF during disaster mitigation," an NDRF officer said.

"Earlier, the Bangladeshi army team held talks with NDRF officers in New Delhi and visited the National Institute of Disaster Management. The visit is aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation on disaster management," added the officer.

The delegation is scheduled to leave for Dhaka on Saturday.
