Mangaluru: Shiradi Ghat road to be closed for four months from December

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Oct 17: The Shiradi Ghat stretch of national highway 75 between the city and Bengaluru will remain closed for four months from December this year.

Speaking at Hassan, superintending engineer of National Highways Authority of India, Raghavan, said on Friday October 16 that the second phase of works on the road would be completed in four months.

He gave this information at the meeting of the district awareness committee held at Hoysala auditorium of zilla panchayat, Hassan. "The first phase of 13 km road concreting was completed recently. Crash barrier construction has also been finished. Work of building 2.4 km of protective wall and 200 metres of culverts are yet to be completed. The contractors have time till November this year to finish these jobs," he explained.

He said that tender processes are continuing for the second phase of work, and that like in the past, works will be allowed to begin only after the concerned stock enough raw materials to complete over half of the road works.

"Although 24 months time is allotted as per contract rules for this work, we will ensure that the work is attended within four months. For taking up road works, we will have to close the road," he added.

I feel there is some reason for not issuing the tender for both stretch at the same time. Im sure it was done with intention for favouring the some body. No wonder if the contract goes to the same construction company which is working on the Marenhalli - Kemphole Stretch.
Even in this age, where technolgoy has gone beyobd ones imagination we are seeing road closure for about year in 2 years time frame.

Keeping Shiradi Ghat road closed most of the time, has surpassed the closure times of Ladakh and Leh roads (which are closed for genuine technical reasons of course).

Yes yes You reminded me of Modi's promise of Bullet trains...!!
With the speed they go, have they shot too far into the seas (whichever one you readers like from three of them)
Another promise junked!!! But we have the Billions Japan\China gave
    our PM for these projects...

It is heartening to note at least once a project that is given 24 months to complete, will be be completed in just 4 (FOUR) months!!! I hope that person was not inebriated when he d that or has gone cuckoo...

While in other habd NHAI is telling 24 month is allotted and in other hand in 4 month project will be finish. If a project can complete in 4 months y they alloted 24 months? its 6 times of actual duration of project. Program is done by a proper planning engineer or just by a attender?

it means NHAI itself dont have enough knowledge about project.

Now people can start practicing for Urulu Seve!

The four months may stretch to whole of 2016, definitely after the monsoon!

It is high time that the Bangalore-Mangalore rail line is converted to Broadguage so that travelling time is reduced to 6 or 8 hours max and more trains are introduced instead of yielding to the Bus lobby.

Will Nalin Kumar Kateel and Shobha Karandlaje take note? Perhaps they too should have Urulu Seve once a month so PM Modi will ask Rail Mantri Prabhu to act. Instead of talking of BULLET TRAINS which may not happen this is the least that cane be done.
