Mangaluru, Oct 18: Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel visited bishop of Mangaluru diocese Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza at Bishop’s House, Kodialbail here on Saturday, October 17.
Nalin Kumar during the discussion with the bishop appreciated the special concern shown by the Christians in the preservation of environment. The bishop and the MP discussed various things done and that need to done for the well being of the Dakshina Kannada district.
Nalin gave details of the grants he provided to various churches and institutes in the current year for which bishop expressed his appreciation.
Diocese secretary M P Noronha asked the MP to request the centre to choose Mangaluru as Smart City in the first round itself. Nalin promised to look into the matter and said that he has already taken steps in this regard.
Nalin opined that there is a need to develop Mangaluru as Smart City without harming the cultural richness and heritage of the city.
Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director of Father Muller Medical College, Fr Joseph Lobo, director of St Joseph Engineering College, Fr Valerian D’Souza, Fr John Vas, Fr Valerian Fernandes, Marcel Monteiro, Elias Fernandes, Ranganath Kini and Raymond D’Cunha were present during the meeting.
