Breaking open window rods, thieves burgle things worth Rs 1.5 lac

Puttur, Oct 19: Thieves who entered a home at Haradi here late night of Saturday October 17, decamped with valuables worth about Rs 1.5 lac including Rs 8,000 in cash.

The house belongs to a retired bank official named Vijayakumar Bhat. The family of Bhat had been on a visit to Mangaluru to attend a function there. The thieves, taking advantage of the fact that the house was unoccupied, entered it, took away two golden bangles, a pair of ear lobes, a golden chain, four silver coins and two silver pitchers. The family members came to know about the theft after returning home on Sunday.

The thieves had broken the window rods by using axe and rod found near the home.

Assistant superintendent of police, Rishvanth, and city police inspector, Mahesh Prasad, visited the spot and guided investigation. Finger print experts and sniffer dogs were summoned.
