Kundapur, Oct 19: Tension prevailed in Kandlur again after miscreants set fire to a flag belonging to a community late night on Sunday October 18.
Though no untoward incident has been reported so far, it is learnt that the incident has not gone down well with some members of the community whose flag was burned.
As preparation for 50th Sharadotsava celebrations, banners, flags and buntings were hung throughout Kandlur town. Some miscreants with the intention of creating tension, set fire to an Om flag put up near the Kandlur bridge.
On Wednesday October 15, a group of people of a community had assaulted two Dalit men belonging to right-wing outfits. Arrests related to the incident were made later. As the area has been sensitive, district police superintendent Annamalai had visited the place and taken sufficient measures to stop further unpleasant incidents. Kundapur DySP had initiated a peace meet. The leaders from both the communities were asked to cooperate to maintain peace and to help in holding the Sharadotsava peacefully. But within two days of the peace meet, miscreants once again attempted to create tension by burning the flag.
Kundapur police visited the spot and have asked people to maintain peace.
