Mangaluru: Sorake inaugurates newly-built Jeppu fish market

Mangaluru, Oct 19: The new Jeppu fish market, built at a cost of Rs 92.5 lac, was inaugurated by state urban development minister Vinay Kumar Sorake here on Monday October 19.

Addressing the gathering, Sorake said, "The fish market inaugurated today has been built at a cost of Rs 92.50 lac. The market will have separate stalls for dry and raw fish.

"We have taken steps to build new markets at Kadri, Kankanady, Urwa and Suratkal also. Funds will be released by Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC) for these projects and work will be done at a fast pace," he added.

MLA J R Lobo said, "We will take up work on different markets in the city like Kadri, Kankanady, and Urwa. Kaikamba market fair is the only one weekend fair in the city and the market will be developed at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore. The Coastal Development Authority has agreed to released funds for this purpose.

"Development is the motto of our government. By all these development works, we will change the picture of this city in the next three years," he added.

Mayor Jacintha Alfred, MUDA chairman Ibrahim Kodijal and others were present.

Later, Sorake also visited Town Hall to inspect the ongoing renovation work. "We have taken up the task of completing the renovation work on Town Hall on a warfooting. About 60-70 percent of the work is complete and it will be inaugurated on November 14," he said.
