Mangaluru, Oct 19: Clashes broke out between people of two communities at Chitrapur near Suratkal on the night of Monday October 18.
At least five persons were injured and admitted to hospital.
It is said that two girls of a community used to frequent a shop at Chitrapur where their friends, three girls, were working. The shop is owned by a person of another community, and among the three girls who work there, one belongs to a different community.
The two girls used to often go to meet the girls working in the shop, but they were frequently warned against doing so by some people of their community as they claimed the shop owner would also talk to the girls, it is learnt.
On Monday evening, the girls again went to the shop, and when objections were raised by people of one community, people of other community also gathered at the spot and soon arguments snowballed into a clash.
The police arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control.
Among the five injured, Pushparaj and Bharath have been admitted to a hospital in Suratkal, while three others, identified as Altaf, Ajmal and Shamshuddin have been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru.
