Singapore parliament to have first session in January


Singapore, Oct 22 (IANS): The first session of Singapore's 13th Parliament will commence on January 15, next year, an official statement said on Thursday.

Leader of the House Grace Fu said in the statement that the sitting will start with the election of the Speaker and the swearing-in of the MPs, Channel News Asia reported.

Singapore President Tony Tan will also deliver his opening address in parliament where he is set to announce the priorities, policies and programmes for its five-year term, the statement added.

The previous 12th Parliament was constituted on October 10, 2011 and was dissolved on August 25, 2015.
