11 killed in suicide attack at Shia shrine in Pakistan

Karachi, Oct 23 (PTI): At least 11 minority Shia Muslims, including six children, were killed and 12 injured today when a suicide bomber wearing a burqa blew himself up at a shrine in a village in Pakistan's restive Balochistan province as the worshippers gathered to observe the holy month of Moharram.

The bomber entered the Imambargah, used for religious services, in the remote Chalgari area of Kachhi district at the time of evening prayer and exploded his explosive-laden vest.

"At least 10 people were killed and a dozen others were wounded after a suicide bomber blew himself up at the shrine," Balochistan home minister Sarfaraz Bugti said.

Hours later an injured victim died, increasing the death toll to 11, a security official said. Bugti said there were six children between 10 and 12 years old among the dead and that some women had also died. The explosion was heard in a wide area and shattered windows in the nearby vicinity. Security forces reached the blast site and cordoned off the area.

Police said since the village was in a remote area the rescue workers and paramedical officials were finding it difficult to shift the injured to the only health unit in the area. "They are now being shifted to Sibi," Bugti said.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack but Sunni extremist groups often target minority Shias. A local administration official said the suicide bomber appeared to be about 18 years old and was wearing a woman's burqa.

It was the first major attack that targeted the minority Shia Muslims in the holy month of Moharram when they organise special prayers and take out processions to observe the martyrdom of Hussain Ibne Ali, the grandson of the Prophet.

Sectarian violence in particular that carried out by Sunni militants against minority Shia has claimed thousands of lives in the country over the past decade.

The government has taken extraordinary security measures for the two most important days of the month of Muharram with thousands of paramilitary rangers and police deployed in major cities and towns to avoid any terrorist attacks which could trigger off sectarian violence.

Balochistan has been rocked due to violence by extremists and ethnic Baoch militants. Earlier this week, at least 10 people, mostly daily wage workers were killed in an explosion in a passenger bus in the provincial capital Quetta.

History.... reveals divisions, in Christianity... Hatred, Suspicion, blood letting, between different sects........ especially Catholic Protestants & many other denominations, are well documented.
Realizations, soon dawned upon the Christian world, that it is futile to kill fellow Christians in the name of Christ !!!! Today there is Peace, Tolerance, Reconciliation,
    between various nations,races, who
profess this faith....... Daily, brutal killings, between Sunnis, Shias & various other sects in the Muslim world, must come to an END..
FAILING !!!!! will result in more human degradation, inherent loss of peace, especially in the Islamic countries !!!!!!!!!

More people in the planet have died in the name of PEACE Religion than any other reason. Most Religion is started by borrowing the scriptures from other existing religion.

To believe what others believe is not our own experience and it is dangerous.

Meditation is the only tool which opens up the inner doors of our heart. It is not believe system but one experience the truth by his own.

Shia is not a caste bro...It is ideology....shia can become a sunni or vice versa......There are fanatics in every religion..In past shaivites and vaishnavites fought each other ...In islamic world this shia-sunni conflict was lately fuelled by extremist element within the community with external support..Offcourse this is disgrace to the community...When there is no shia and sunni in Quran and hadith who are these extremist element fighting for on either side....When in makkah shia and sunni pray together ,does hajj symbolising earlier form of Islam with no division...who are this extremist element who claim they own the religion...We are not defending this extremist element....Offcourse some of the founding father of pakistan are themselves identify as shias...Muslims need to stand with Quran and identify as Mislim not as shia or sunni ...

For your information In india according to Sachar committe traditional caste system is continued whether hindu or muslim or christian. In middle asia or Arab countries our same caste system become tribe system. To eliminate caste system Basavanna heralded changes in social, cultural, literary, political and in almost all sectors of life and it followers become Lingayaths. To eliminate tribe system in arab people social reformer mohammad started Idea of Allha and people who followed his teachings become muslims.still traditional rigid tribe/caste relationships have continued in many places, including the institution of slavery in Arabic world.

Wether one names the division as caste or ideology the moot issue is hatred for the other group. this hatred is not nothing new it existed for centuries. the power struggle between shiaa and sunnis for imamate or caliphate has been recorded in History. The divisions is more pronounced in meddle east. in your write up you seem to suggest that external forces are responsible to accentuate the friction. This to me is only partly true. the sunni dispensation in Saudi has over a period has funded forces that anti Shia.
