Bengal policeman dies after assault


Kolkata, Oct 24 (IANS): Assaulted by a gang of inebriated youths, a policeman succumbed to his injuries on Saturday in West Bengal's Darjeeling district, police said.

Amogh Gurung, 43, an assistant sub-inspector, was assaulted on October 21 in Mirik after he confronted a gang of youths who were drunk and blocked a road with their motorbikes.

"Gurung succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of the day. We have arrested seven people in this connection and have booked them for murder," Darjeeling superintendent of police Amit Javalgi said.
