Dammam, Oct 24: The first day of Khobar United (KU) Cricket Club tournament set off successfully on Friday, October 23.
Tournament chairman Hameed Khurid, Khobar United captain Dildar Hussein, Khobar United coach Raja Raees along with the other guests Nizar Kunjathoor from Al Batin Scaffolding, Iqbal from Zamel, Arshad from Jacob Zate Company, Yaseen from SABSA DCA and EPCA officials inaugurated the tournament.
The inauguration was then followed by the first round of knockout matches played as per the schedule in front of large crowds gathered at the ground.
8 teams were elimated from the tournament in the first round itself and the remaining 8 teams Al Aad, Al Safa, Egalite, Amaco, Khobar United, Expertise, BMC and NGC qualified for the quarterfinals which will be played on October 30.
To witness the quarterfinals the organisers are expecting a very good gathering of spectators to watch and encourage their favorite teams play big matches.
Mansoor anchored and managed the entire tournament operation and thanked the players, spectators, media partners and sponsors who lent their support right from the start and urged them to continue the same for the quarterfinals.
The winning team will get the tournament trophy and cash prize of SAR 11,111, while the runner-up team will get a trophy and SAR 5,555. Trophies and cash prizes will also be awarded to player of the tournament, man of the match in each game, best bowler of the tournament, best batsman and best wicketkeeper. Attractive prizes also await participants and spectators.
The tournament will mark the 5th anniversary of Khobar United. Large number of players from the expatriate community of Karnataka, particularly Mangaluru, Udupi and Kundapur regions are participating.
