Mysuru, Oct 25: Swamiji of ancient Vyasaraja Math located at Sosale village in T Narasipura talauk of the district, his disciple, and mother, have been arrested by the police on charges of stealing a silver chariot gifted to the Math by the then ruler of Mysuru. Vidyamanoharateertha Swamiji, who heads this Math, his mother, Srimati, and disciple, Pramod, have been taken into custody.
A police team led by district superintendent of police, Abhinav Khare, tho leads the investigation, and assistant superintendent of police of Nanjangud, Divyasara Thomas, took the three into custody from the Math's branch in the city on the night of Friday.
Main accused in the case, Udbhavachar, who happens to be the father of the Swamiji, has secured anticipatory bail from the court, and hence could evade arrest.
After noticing that the silver chariot gifted to the Math by the ruler of Mysuru had gone missing, a devotee of the Math named Narendra, who had earlier worked as manager of this math, and who hails from Bengaluru, had filed a police complaint. He had named the Swamiji, his parents, and disciple, of stealing this silver chariot. The Swamii had earlier been accused of pledging golden plates of the Math and raising loan of Rs 20 lac from a private finance firm in Mysuru.
