Won't work in Bollywood for the sake of it: Sabyasachi Mukherjee

New Delhi, Oct 26 (IANS): He has lent his creativity in fashion to films like "Black", "Guzaarish" and "Paa", but ace designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee says he won't delve into the designing for movies “for the sake of it”.

“I'm not doing any Bollywood projects right now because I have worked with some of the best in the country. And I keep telling myself that if I don't have a relevant script, then I just don’t want to do it for the sake of working in Bollywood because that is not my main business,” Sabyasachi told IANS.

Sabyasachi, who started an eponymous label in 1999, forayed into films in 2005 by designing costumes for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film “Black”, which earned him critical acclaim along with the National Award for the Best Costume Designer for a Feature Film.

Since then, Sabyasachi took the film world by a storm by styling for other Bollywood movies such as “Baabul”, “Laaga Chunari Mein Daag”, “Raavan”, “No One Killed Jessica” and “Kahaani”.

Sabyasachi, who is seen as a mentor in the sixth edition of the TV show “Band Baajaa Bride”, says he is waiting for the right script.

He said: “If I get a fantastic script which will help me tell the India story through costume, then I will design for a film.”

The designer has also styled for some of the popular Bollywood actresses, including Vidya Balan, Tabu, Rani Mukerji, Shabana Azmi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sushmita Sen and Kareena Kapoor Khan.

Among the current crop of Bollywood’s ladies, he has got patrons in Deepika Padukone and Kangana Ranaut, and among international actresses Renee Zellweger and Reese Witherspoon have sported his label.
