Pakistan mission reception for Geeta cancelled

New Delhi, Oct 26 (IANS): The reception at the Pakistan high commission here for Geeta -- a hearing and speech impaired woman who returned to India after more than a decade being stranded in Pakistan -- has been cancelled in the wake of the major quake that jolted south Asia.

"In view of the massive earthquake in Pakistan and loss of lives, the reception for Geeta at high commission this evening has been cancelled," Manzoor Ali Memon, media head of the Pakistan High Commission, said.

Geeta was left stranded in Pakistan after she accidentally strayed across the border, when she was eleven years old.

She was found by the Pakistan Rangers sitting alone at the Lahore railway station in 2003.

She was handed over to Pakistan NGO Edhi Foundation's Bilquees Edhi and lived with her since then in Karachi.

Geeta arrived in New Delhi by a Pakistan International flight on Monday morning.
