Muscat, Oct 27: Mangalore Spikers, a team of sports enthusiasts hailing from coastal Karnataka is all set to organize a one of a kind international volleyball tournament on Thursday November 5 from 7 pm onwards. The matches will continue on Friday November 6 from 3 pm onwards. The tournament will be held at the indoor volleyball court of Muscat Sports Club at Wadi Kabir, Sultanate of Oman.
The international volleyball tournament is sponsored by Bhuvanendra Kidiyur, Ashish Kumar, Mahabal Mendon and Girish Kanchan under the patronage of Muscat Mogaveers Koota (MMK) and is held in association with Muscat Sports Club.
The contenders will be playing for 'Mogaveera Cup' and the tournament is being organized as part of MMK silver jubilee celebrations which will be held on 27th November 2015.
Presumably, this is the first time that a private group will be organizing an international volleyball tournament of this magnitude in Muscat, Oman.
In all 10 teams from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Pakistan, Oman and Indian Teams from Oman have confirmed participation in this tournament. A spectacular show of volleyball action is going to be witnessed on two nights which will be a thrilling experience to one and all.
The inaugural ceremony will kick off on November 5 evening followed by the first round of competitions and the tournament will end on November 6 night with the finale of final match followed by prize distribution and closing ceremony.
As star attraction Anup D’Costa, a highly acclaimed Indian national volleyball player, is going to participate in the tournament as a guest player. Anup had taken to volleyball since childhood and has represented the country at a young age. The fact that he competed with thousands of players all over the country and emerged as one of the chosen players for the national team on the basis of his sheer talent is highly laudable. Anup represented India in 2010 Asian Youth Volleyball Championship held in Tehran, Iran and was adjudged the 'best scorer of the championship'. In the Indian volleyball league he plays for Karnataka Bulls.
Apart from playing in hundreds of national volleyball tournaments, Anup had participated in several international volleyball championships held in Iran, Tunisia, Turkey, Maldives, Dubai, Myanmar, Mauritius and South Africa.
Anup is the recipient of innumerable awards; amongst which the prestigious ones are: best scorer in 8th Asian Youth Championship held in Tehran, Iran, Karnataka Olympic Association Award and Kempegowda Award.
Muscat sports lovers are going to witness an exciting game of volleyball on November 5 and 6. Due to space constraints in the indoor court, the organizers are planning to restrict the entry by invitation only.
