Mangaluru, Oct 27: Joseph Crasta, managing trustee of Snehalaya Charitable Trust, has been chosen for the 11th ‘Pingara Rajyotsava Award-2015' for his immense social service which includes providing free meals to 700 poor people at Wenlock government hospital," announced Roy Castelino, 'Pingara Rajyotsava Award' committee member.
Roy Castelino, who is also the president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, was addressing a press meet organised by 'Pingara' Kannada Weekly at Hotel Woodlands here on Tuesday October 27.
"Joseph Crasta has been serving the orphans, aged, poor, destitute and needy people at his Snehalaya Charitable Trust for many years. Presently he is looking after 120 such people at Snehalaya by providing them free food, shelter and treatment," Roy Castelino said.
The award will be conferred on November 17 at Don Bosco hall at 5 pm. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangaluru diocese will preside over and give away the award. State minister for sports, youth services and fisheries Abhaychandra Jain, MLA J R lobo, MLC Ivan D'Souza, Elias Sanctis and Roy Castelino will be the chief guests.
The selection committee received 17 applications this year for the award. Roy Castellino, Harikrishna Punaroor, Fr William Menezes, Rohan Monteiro, Dr B G Suvarna, Elias Fernandes, C G Pinto and Dr Ronald Anil Fernandes were the members of the selection committee.
The annual 'Pingara Rajyotsava Award' was instituted in 2005.
