Gold smuggler held near border in Bengal


Kolkata, Oct 27 (IANS): The Border Security Force (BSF) on Tuesday apprehended a man with over a kg of gold near the Bangladesh border in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, an officer said.

The accused, identified as Shahgir Dafadar, was apprehended under Mustafapur border outpost area.

"Dafadar was intercepted by a patrol team while he was trying to smuggle in the gold from Bangladesh. We have seized 12 gold biscuits weighing around 1,200 gram and valued at Rs 33.60 lakh," said a BSF officer.

The BSF so far in the year has seized over 20 kg gold valuing in excess of Rs.5.55 crore and apprehended 18 gold smugglers.
