Kundapur, Oct 27: Well-known Abu Dhabi-based entrepreneur, CEO of NMC Group Dr B R Shetty and National Award winning film director Girish Kasaravalli were conferred the Yadthare Manjayya Shetty Memorial Award in a ceremony held at R N Shetty Kalyana Bhavan here on Monday October 26.
The ceremony, marking the birth anniversary of Yadthare Manjayya Shetty, was organized by Yadthare Manjayya Shetty Memorial Trust.
Acknowledging the honour, Dr B R Shetty recalled that he had given priority to roads, drainage, housing, health and education and engaged in political and social activities when he was the town municipal vice-president. "I later went to the Gulf in search of greener pastures and to accomplish my goals. I grew to greater heights through persistent hard work and struggle. Whatever I have achieved is not with money but by facing all the obstacles.
"One needs to have a pure mind in order to achieve success. Yadthare Manjayya Shetty is a living example of it. The felicitation and the award today have increased my responsibility. As part of Swachch Bharat Abhiyan, I have decided to provide toilets for 102 families in Kundapur and Byndoor," he said.
Girish Kasaravalli after receiving the award said that he has a unique relationship with Kundapur. "I have given priority to the land and language of Kundapur in my movies. I feel proud to receive the award in Kundapur and that too from Yadthare Manjayya Shetty Memorial Trust. My wife Vaishali Kasaravalli also has an inclination towards this place. For this reason, for the first time ever, I made a movie in pure Kundagannada. I am glad that I got full support from the local people as the 'Gulabi Talkies' film won several awards," he said.
Former MLA A G Kodgi inaugurated the programme while president of the Trust B Jagannatha Shetty presided.
Addressing the gathering, A G Kodgi said that Manjayya Shetty's dedication and sincerity was an inspiration to the present generation.
Nitte University chancellor Vinay Hegde, former MP K Jayaprakash Hegde, Nitte University vice-chancellor Dr Shantaram Shetty, International Bunts Welfare Trust president A Sadananda Shetty, Mangaluru, Kundapur town municipal council president Kalavathi, Prof M Subbanna Shetty Koteshwar, Kollur Mookambika temple management committee president Krishnaprasad Adyanthaya, eye specialist Dr Y S Hegde, U T Alva, Mangaluru, Laxminarayana Shetty, U Seetharam Shetty Uppunda and B S Shetty were the chief guests.
Former MLA B Appanna Hegde welcomed. Kundeshwar temple former trustee Dr H V Narasimhamurthy delivered the keynote address.
Journalist U S Shenoy, teacher Dinaker R Hegde and Gautam Hegde compered the programme. Avarse Sudhakar Shetty proposed vote of thanks.
