Shanghai breaks Guinness Record for pizza dough tossing

Shanghai, Oct 29 (IANS): A hotel in Shangahi broke the Guinness world record for the most number of people tossing pizza dough at the same time, the media reported on Thursday.

A total of 511 pizza lovers, including locals and foreigners, in Shanghai's luxury hotel Pudong Shangri-La broke the record, earlier held since June by Papa John's pizza restaurant in London, where 338 people had tossed dough, EFE news reported.

The hotel also holds Guinness records for the most number of people blowing out candles at a time (508, during the Earth Hour in 2013) and the most number of people having breakfast in bed at the same time (338, last year).

Chinese businesses and cities have a particular obsession for collecting such records.

Meanwhile, Yangzhou city in Jiangsu province was stripped of its Guinness record for the largest quantity of fried rice on the planet, over wastage of food.

On the occasion of the 2,500th anniversary of the city's foundation, Yangzhou had prepared 4.19 tonnes of fried rice, a large amount of which ended up being fed to pigs, leading to Guinness withdrawing the recognition.
