Two Tripura judicial officers punished for misconduct


Agartala, Oct 30 (IANS): Two senior Tripura judicial service officers were punished for cheating in an examination and appearing in court in a drunken state and wearing improper dress, an official notification said here on Friday.

The state law department in a notification said that the district legal services authority secretary in Gomati judicial district, Prakash Chandra Biswas, was suspended recently after he was caught cheating in the Ph.D. course work examination.

"Following an inquiry, Biswas was asked to go on compulsory retirement from service with immediate effect," the notification said.

Another notification said that Jesthamani Murasingh, judge of family court of Udaipur of south Tripura judicial district, was punished by withholding two of his salary increments for the next two years without cumulative effect.

"Murasingh was punished for appearing in the court premises at Kailashahar (in northern Tripura) recently in a drunken condition and misbehaving with a civil and assistant sessions judge of a Tripura judicial district. He also shoved around some furniture. At that time he was improperly dressed," the notification said.

The notification, issued by law secretary Data Mohan Jamatia, said the actions against the two judicial service officers were taken on the advice of the Tripura High Court.
