Mangaluru, Oct 30: St Aloysius College (Autonomous) was conferred with Sr Hedwige Annual Award for the year 2014-15 by the Xavier Board of Higher Education in India (XBHEI) on October 24 for the College's credentials and systematic approach towards holistic and integral growth of its students and the staff.
The College has been honoured with Sr Hedwige Annual Award for conducting sustained programmes for spiritual welfare of students and human value formation of teachers and students. The award was given under signature and seal of the president and secretary of the XBHEI.
St Aloysius College, started in the year 1880, under the patronage of the Milan Jesuits has grown today to be a catalyst educational institution of Karnataka under the Mangalore Jesuit Educational Society (MJES). It is one of the premier institutions in India run by the Jesuits of Karnataka, catering to nearly five thousand students from across the country in higher education.
XBHEI is the highest body of Catholic educational institutions in India. It was started in 1951, with its headquarters in Bengaluru. Late Fr Jerome D’Souza was one of the founding members of the board.
The award was presented at XBHEI at Social Development Centre, Ranchi, Jharkhand at their annual governing body meeting. The award was received by Fr Francis D’Almeida, the vice-principal of the College.
The award was handed over to Fr Swebert D’Silva, the principal of St Aloysius College, by the president of XBHE Dr Neri Cornelio, the principal of Milagres College Kallianpur, Joselyn Lobo, associate professor, Roshni Nilaya and the secretary of XBHEI in the presence of a few Jesuit priests, Dr Narahari, the registrar of St Aloysius College and other eminent staff members of the college.
