Mangaluru, Oct 30: For the first time in the history of Tulu film industry or Coastalwood, 'Chaali Polilu' film produced by Prakash Pandeshwar under the banner of Jayakirana Films, and directed by Veerendra Shetty Kavoor, on Saturday October 31 completed a successful run of 365 days at the PVR Cinemas in the city and thus set a new milestone in the Tulu filmdom.
This is a remarkable achievement, especially considering that 'Chaali Polilu' was Veerendra Shetty Kavoor's directorial debut, and also the maiden venture of Jayakirana Films headed by Prakash Pandeshwar. Veerendra Kavoor has also written the script, screenplay and dialogues of the movie.
The movie had released on October 31, 2014 in all box office theatres in Mangaluru region such as Jyothi, Cinepolis, BIG Cinemas, Amarashree in Moodbidri, and Nakshatra Cinema in BC Road, Puttur, Beltangady, Udupi and also later in Abu Dhabi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Soon, it will be also be screened in Delhi and the US.
Besides, 'Chaali Polilu' has also set a record in box office collections, earning over Rs 2 crore, a whopping sum for any locally made movie. Previously, it also set the record for completing 75 days in 5 theatres and 100 days run in three theatres in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district. The team celebrated its 100 days of success with a grand event on February 13 this year. Moreover, 'Chaali Polilu' has become the first regional film to be screened in many parts of the country, and it is one of the films selected for the Kolkata Film Festival to be held from November 14-16.
Renowned theatre and film actors Devdas Kapikaad, Navin D Padil, and Bhojraj Vamanjoor played the lead roles in the film. Arjun Kapikad and Surendra Bantwal have made special appearances in this movie, with actress Divyashree and Navya adding beauty and poise to the cast. Sundar Rai Mandara, Chetan Rai, Sunder Rai, Padmaja Rao, Prasanna Shetty, Prajwal Pandeshwar, Deepak Balan, Prajnesh Shetty, Jaganath Shetty Bala and many others also appear in this movie.
The cinematography by famous Mollywood cameraman Utpal Nayanar has been appreciated. The music of the film is by veteran music director V Manohar. The video rights of the movie has been sold for Rs 11 lac to Kishore from 'Music House'.
The movie also won the Tulu Cinemotsava Award 2015 for the best film by public vote and in five other categories.
Speaking to daijiworld, an elated Prakash Pandeshwar, producer of the film, said, "I should really thank the people for supporting the movie and the entire film crew for putting in full efforts for the success of the movie.
"People will always support good movies. 'Chaali Polilu' has brought about a change in the Tulu film industry, in that after this movie, many other films came up. The box office collection is about Rs 2.16 crore, which is a record in the Tulu film industry. 'Chaali Polilu' may continue for two more months in the theatres."
Director Veerendra Shetty Kavoor said, "This is the first film in the entireTulu film history to complete one year. The average occupancy in the theatre is above 54.64%. Even last week the show was houseful. We thank the people of Tulunadu for supporting this film."
Indeed, the unprecedented success of 'Chaali Polilu' is a testimonial to the fact that the Tulu film industry is growing by leaps and bounds and carving out its own niche in the country's movie industry at large.
