Udupi, Oct 30: City Municipal council opposition party members raised their voice against controversial newspaper statements made by nominated member Janardhan Bhandarkar on the disparity in grant distribution for construction works.

Commissioner Manjunathaiah clarified at the body meeting on Friday October 30, that the 14th finance commission released Rs 3.99 lac to the city municipality and decided to distribute the grant to 27 wards out of 35 as per the guidelines. Giving equal preference to the wards selected, they distributed certain percentage of funds towards all kinds of work such as drainage, sanitation, roads, electricity, maintenance of cemetery and others.

On the reopening of Inox, P Yuvaraj, president, CMC complained that the city people need a quality theater, but they are not ready to grant permission for it now.

Initially the fish department had allotted 19 cents of land along with the RTC for the construction of a fish market, but now only 1.6 cents is available as the balance land has been taken up by private hands. A portion of the fish market at Kadiyali is acquired by a private builder.

Municipal councilor, Shashiraj Kundar disclosed that the market is under renovation of Rs 10 lac. After a heated debate with opposition party leaders he alleged that the BJP office is on illegal government land.

M R Pai, a senior opposition party leader said, "The only park in the city namely the Bhujanga Park has now turned into a forest park thereby making it impossible for senior citizens and children to visit. The work of clearing the park falls on CMC.

CMC will take a unanimous decision about the construction of a flyover at Karavali bypass and the memorandum copy will be sent to the central government.

CMC vice president Amrita Krishnamurthy was present at the body meeting.
