10 kg cocaine seized from Bangladesh border


Kolkata, Oct 30 (IANS): In one of its biggest drug catches on the eastern theatre, the BSF has seized 10 kg of cocaine valued at Rs.40 crore from near the Bangladesh border in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, an officer said on Friday.

The seizure was made by troopers of Border Security Force's 40th Battalion at the Integrated Check Post (ICP) Petrapole while checking a truck coming from Bangladesh.

"During a special operation, we seized 10 kg of powder from a truck at ICP Petrapole on Wednesday. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) after testing the powder on Friday found it to be cocaine. The total value of the seized cocaine is Rs.40 crore," said a BSF officer.

The truck driver, identified as Suman Shil, 22, a resident of Bangaon in the district, has, along with the seized cocaine, been handed over to the NCB.

In another operation, the troopers on Thursday seized 21 kg of ganja (cannabis) near Meghna border outpost in Nadia district.
