Udupi, Oct 31: Minister of urban development and district incharge Vinay Kumar Sorake on Saturday October 31 laid the foundation for projects and inaugurated works that have been completed through various departments, altogether worth Rs 150 crore, and distributed amenities to beneficiaries. The programme was held in front of Kaup Marigudi.
Addressing the gathering, Sorake said that projects are being chalked out to transform and develop Kaup municipal council as a model in the state and the country.
"There will be works executed in every ward at a cost of Rs 81 lac. The main work will be to upgrade the drainage system. An area of 10 acre has been earmarked for a scientific waste disposal unit. Several other works will be taken up under the SFC project in the second phase. I have visited the panchayats in Kaup constituency limits five times to understand the problems. I have acted irrespective of caste, religion, and party. I hope to work in the same way in the future too.
"The contribution by Kaup, Uliyaragoli, and Mallar gram panchayat presidents is immense in the formation of Kaup town municipality. People across party lines should help in the development," he said.
Amenities were distributed to 677 beneficiaries under Panchayat Raj, 311 beneficiaries from revenue department, 252 beneficiaries from food and civil supplies, 510 from minority commission, and 120 beneficiaries from women and children welfare department.
Kaup development committee president K Vasudeva Shetty presided over the programme. Udupi zilla panchayat member Aida Gibba D’Souza, zilla panchayat former president Sarasu Bangera, taluk panchayat member Girish Kumar, Sumana Kishore, Kundapur assistant conservator of forest Prakash S Netalkar, Kaup C A Bank president Kaup Diwaker Shetty, businessman K Manohar Shetty, Kaup municipal council official Charulatha Somal, and Karnataka department of urban water supply and drainage board official Rangadhamayya were the chief guests.
Udupi taluk Akrama Sakrama committee president Narayana Poojary, Katpadi grama panchayat former president Vinaya Ballal, Uliyaragoli grama panchayat former president Pradeep U, various grama panchayat presidents, vice-presidents Jithendra Furtado, Aruna Kumar, Ranjani Hegde, Sugam Shekar, Nagaratna, Damayanti Ameen, Y Sukumar, Vishala Hejmady, Shobha Salian, David D' Souza, Juliet Veera D’ Souza, and Kiran Kumar were present.
Urban development project director V Prasanna welcomed. Gram panchayat Okkoota president Dr Devi Prasad Shetty gave the keynote address. Town municipal council official Mabel D’ Souza proposed the vote of thanks. National award winning teacher Kudi Vasanth Shetty compered the programme.
