Mangalore, Aug 8: Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) has won the Oil Industry Safety Award for the year 2006-07, conferred by the Oil Industry Safety Directorate, Ministry of Petroleum & Natrual Gas (MoP & NG).
This Award testifies to a refinery’s safety performance and is decided after exhaustive evaluation by an Awards Committee, on various safety parameters including a safety audit by an external agency.
The selection criteria includes penalty rating, derived from hazard potential, which in turn is based on the complexities in operations, throughput etc., safety management systems adopted during the period and avoidance of accidents, injuries etc.
With a safety record of 1300 days as onJuly 2, 2007, MRPL has set a lofty target for the rest of the oil industry to follow, MRPL sources informed.
Just recently MRPL has won the Jawaharlal Award for Energy Performance for the fourth time in a row as a result of the continuous efforts by the Refinery personnel to excel in the energy management processes of MRPL, stated the press release.
