Davanagere: 70-year-old gang-raped late night on Sunday

Davanagere, Nov 3: A 70-year-old woman, who works to maintain Panchamukhi temple and surrounds tidy, was gang-raped by three youngsters late night on Sunday November 1. The heinous crime occurred near the temple, which is located at Sriram Nagar in the industrial area of the town.

The old lady originally belongs to Kurubarahalli in Hassan district, but has been working at the temple and staying there since long. She claims that local residents, Raju, Soori, and Annappa raped her in turns. After the incident was brought to the notice of local leaders, a complaint was filed in the women's police station in the town.

The rapists reportedly concealed their identities by wrapping clothes around their faces before attacking the hapless woman in pitch dark conditions. Still, the woman was able to identify all of them.

Deputy superintendent of police, Ashok Kumar, visited the women's police station, and gathered details. Thereafter, the woman was led to the district hospital for conducting medical tests with police escort. The police are looking for the accused. The culprits were able to go ahead with their evil motives in spite of the presence of a state home for women in front of the temple.
