Bengaluru, Nov 3: Students studying in Standard IX in high schools, in periphery of forests, and run by the State Government would now get to visit forests as part of their academic currculam.

The forest excursion, aptly titled "Chinnara Vana Darshana" for high school students of Standard IX in all State Government run high schools located in the surroundings would commence from next month, Karnataka’s Forest Minister B RamanathRai told reporters in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

The programme is an attempt to create awareness among schoolchildren on the need to safeguard environment, Rai said.

He said the programme would be launched in Gadag and Belagavi districts in December this year.

It would be extended to other districts later, Rai said, adding: The State Government wanted to create a love for environment among the students.
