Bengaluru, Nov 3: With the murder of Madoor Isubu (45), an alleged associate of underworld operative Chhota Shakeel, and his aide, Ganesh Shetty (47), in a group clash in the Dakshina Kannada jail in the coastal city of Mangaluru on Monday, Karnataka’s Forest Minister B Ramanath Rai has demanded a high-level probe by the Home Department to identify and punish the persons behind the ugly clash.
Rai, who is also the Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada district, said only a high-level Departmental probe by the Home Department would unravel persons behind supplying weapons inside the jail so that effective steps could be taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future.
"I will provide all information to Chief Minister and Home Minister on Monday’s incidents in the jail," he said while speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
The minister urged the new Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara to order a high-level departmental probe.
"We don’t know who has taken weapons inside the jail," he said answering the questions from reporters.
However, stern action should be taken against police if they were found responsible for supplying weapons inside the jail.
"We also need to check if there were any lapses on the part of the jail officials and responsibility must be fixed to send out a strong message against such incidents from recurring," he said.
Rai, who had had received a threat call from unidentified person, said he had discussed the jail incident with senior police officers and instructed them take steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
