Mangaluru, Nov 4: Former state minister and president of BJP city north block, Krishna J Palemar, has demanded the resignation of district in-charge minister for Dakshina Kannada, B Ramanath Rai. He asked the minister to own moral responsibility for the sluggishness of development works in the district and total inertia that is evident in administrative machinery. He also said that Rai does not have any control over the administrative machinery.
"Since the last about three months, the only things we have come to hear from Dakshina Kannada district is about a spate of murders. "Murders are occurring in broad daylight by mercenaries wielding deadly weapons. People are being killed in filmy fashion. Death threats are being posed to even those who raise slogans or sing eulogies of Bharat Mata," he said.
He pointedly questioned as to whether the murders occurring within the compound of the district jail, which happens to be a sensitive area where close watch needs to be kept, are part of government-sponsored programme under 'Hatyaru Bhagya' scheme. He criticized the minister for giving rise to an atmosphere where people wanting to protect their cattle are facing threats to their lives, duly observing that even ministers in the district are getting life threats. Palemar also pointed at the increasing grip of drugs and ganja mafia in the district, which he said, are driving the youngsters towards the world of crime.
He also criticized the state government for turning a blind eye towards the increasing menace of prostitution in the state.
