Mangalore, Aug 9: A ‘Swacchatha Andholan’ (cleanliness drive) was held by students of Besant college here in the city on Wednesdasy August 8. The jatha was inaugurated at the Town Hall by deputy commissioner M Maheshwar Rao.
The said drive was organized by the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), Besant Women’s College and Lions Club jointly. The jatha’ was held to spread awareness amongst citizens on effective waste management in the city.
Around 750 students and staff of Besant Women’s College participated in the ‘Jatha’ holding placards and banners displaying information on waste management.
The said “Jatha’covered many important areas in the city, namely Hampankatta, Bunder, Car Street, Central Market and Kankanady.
Present on the occasion were Mangalore City Corporation joint commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde, health officer Manjaiah Shetty, Lions Club Kodialbail president Deviprasad Shetty amongst others.
