Udupi, Nov 5: An elderly woman was robbed of her gold in broad daylight at Tenkapete here on Thursday November 5 by two conmen posing as cops.
The woman, identified as Susheela Kamath (75) was walking towards a shop for a cold drink, when two men came in a bike and stopped her near the junction close to Sri Laxmi Venkatesh Temple.
The men told the lady they were cops and that she should not wear gold ornaments while walking alone as there may be chances that she may be robbed.
Susheela, believing their words, took off her gold bangles and chain and put them on a handkerchief offered by the men. The conmen then fled away with her gold.
The men looted her of two gold bangles and a gold chain, altogether weighing 6 sovereigns, valued at Rs 1,20,000.
Susheela stays with her sister Surekha at Tenkapete, it is learnt. The incident took a toll on her health and she has been admitted to hospital, sources said.
Udupi town police have registered a case and investigations are on.
