Bengaluru, Nov 5: In a bid to mollify the ruling Congress party legislators miffed at being denied ministerial berths in the recent expansion of the State Cabinet, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has appointed as many as 10 Congress legislators as parliamentary secretaries.
Among the 10 parliamentary secretaries is Mrs Shakuntala Shetty, the Congress MLA from Puttur assembly constituency. She, incidentally, is the lone woman legislator to be accommodated as the parliamentary secretary.
The newly appointed parliamentary secretaries are:Makabul S Bagavan (Vijapura City constituency), RajuAlagur (Nagathana), Umesh G Jadhav (Chincholi), Doddamani Ramakrishna Shidlingappa (Shirahatti), ChennabasappaSatyappaShivalli (Kundagol), Shakuntala Shetty (Puttur), C Puttarangashetty (Chamarajangar), H P Manjunatha (Hunsur), E Thukaram (Sandur) (all MLAs) and K Govindaraj, MLC.
The Parliamentary Secretaries would be entitled to such salaries and allowances as are admissible to a Minister of State rank under the Karnataka Minister’s Salaries and Allowances Act of 1963.
Parliamentary secretaries would assist the Chief Minister in the implementation of works and expedite works, says an official notification.
