Udupi, Nov 6: An Udupi based lawyer has complained to the Udupi police that he has been cheated by a travel agency from Mangaluru with the promise of Umrah pilgrimage.
Advocate Mohammed Iqbal is the complainant.
Mohammed Iqbal in his complaint says that he wanted to go on a religious pilgrimage of Umrah to Mecca and Madina in Saudi Arabia. He also wanted to take his wife and mother-in-law along with him. Accordingly he approached K Abdul Khader from Al Iqlas tours and travels in Mangaluru. Abdul Khader told him that the whole package would cost Rs 3.30 lac.
Mohammed Iqbal paid Abdul Khader Rs 80,000 on February 9 this year in Udupi. Later he paid Rs 1, 00,000 on March 4 and Rs 1,50,000 on April 25. As per the agreement between the two, Umrah pilgrimage was to be arranged in the first week of May.
The Umrah did not take place at all. Reminders from Mohammed Iqbal did not help. Abdul Khader, who failed to provide the promised package, did not even return the money. This prompted Mohammed Iqbal to lodge a police complaint. “Abdul Khader has cheated many people in the name of Visas” Mohammed Iqbal also mentions in his complaint.
Udupi police have registered the case and are investigating.
