Mangaluru, Nov 6: A heavy truck hit the roof of the Suratkal toll gate, bringing down a part of it and affecting the traffic on the Udupi-Mangaluru highway in the wee hours of Friday, November 6.
As per the information, the truck carrying beedi leaves (tendu) from Udupi to Mangaluru hit the gate at around 3.30 am. A part of roof toll gate roof was completely damaged.
The accident affected the traffic for a long time, as vehicles could move only in a single line.
Traffic police arrived at the spot and managed to control the situation. The airport bound travellers were delayed due to the traffic jam, eye witnesses said.
MLA Mohiuddin Bava visited the spot and took stock of the situation. Speaking to reporters, he said, "A single truck passing through the toll gate has caused so much damage. It shows the poor quality of the work. This is not the right spot to have toll gate."
