Mangalore, Aug 10: On behalf of district Congress, B Ramnath Rai, former district in-charge minister, demanded the government to drop the plans of the Nethravathi diversion project immediately.
Addressing a news conference here on Thursday August 9, Rai said that a one-day seminar will be held to discuss the effects of diversion of river.
The entire project is environmentally overwhelming and if implemented will wreck the farmers in the region, he advised. In such a situation, it is better to give up plans of diversion project, Rai added.
He further said that it will be better if the government plans a series of dams, which will also help the agriculture and the growing population of the district.
