Udupi, Nov 8: "Tipu Sultan is a controversial person. I feel that celebrating his birthday is not a right practice. I will not support the observation of ‘Tipu Jayanthi’." opined Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math.
Swamiji was addressing the media on Saturday, November 7 here.
"Hindu as well as Christian communities oppose the celebration of Tipu birthday. It is better that the government stops the idea." Swamiji added.
CM’s beef remark
"Now the beef eating issue has become controversial in the state. I criticized the chief minister's statement. But I never said anything hurting the sentiments of Muslim community. Nobody should make unnecessary remarks on beef and pork eating issues hurting the sentiments of both Hindu and Muslim communities. CM’s beef remark has surely hurt the Hindus."
Swamiji said his criticism of the chief minister's statement was misunderstood and he did not want to hurt the feelings of any community.
"Exporting beef is wrong. Enforcing the strict ban order on cow slaughter is the only way which can prevent the beef export. Every state government should take measures for the beef ban. It is not right to denounce the central government on the beef issue."
Corruption charges on Anjaneya
Regarding corruption charges levelled against social welfare minister Anjaneya, Swamiji said “The charges are yet to be proved. Now he is just an accused and not a convict. If he is just accused of corruption, then there is no need for him to tender resignation. Anjaneya has done many good things so far."
