Restrictions in Srinagar to foil separatists' march

Srinagar, Nov 11 (IANS): Restrictions were imposed here on Wednesday to foil a protest march called by the separatists, police said.

"Restrictions have been imposed in Parimpora, Maisuma, Kralkhud, M.R. Gunj, Safakadal, Nowhatta, Khanyar and Rainawari areas to maintain law and order," a police officer told IANS.

Hardline senior separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani had called for a protest march to the residence of the 22-year old Gowhar Ahmad Dar who died during clashes with the security forces on November 7.

Dar died after a tear smoke shell hit his head.

The Srinagar district magistrate has ordered a magisterial probe into the youth's death.

Shops, public transport and other businesses were closed in Srinagar on Wednesday.

Separatist leaders Geelani, Miwaiz Umer Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabir Shah, Asiya Andrabi and others have been placed under preventive detention.

Police and CRPF personnel in full riot gear have been deployed to enforce restrictions in the city.
