Mangalore, Aug 11: Dhanraj, a student of Karnataka Polytechnic College, has been elected new president of Mangalore University All College Students Action Committee in the Takshila Auditorium near Ballal Bagh here, said Joylus D’Souza, former district president in the press conference here on Friday August 10.
He further said that Sunil Kumar Shetty, election officer, and Raghvendra Rao, advocate, were present during the election.
Alwyn Mendonca, student leader of St Aloysius College has been elected working president, Hamsa Raj, Ganesh Devadiga and Harish KM have been elected vice presidents and Nitin of Katil College and Harish KV of Davala College have been elected for the position of organizing secretaries.
The press release also said that since the senate memberships at the University had been cancelled, there were no representation to the student community. Hence there was no alternative to pressuring vice-chancellor of the university to have student representatives elected at each college and set up a recognized university students union, a press note stated.
Soon a request in this regard will be submitted to state minister for higher education D H Shanker Murthy, D’Souza added.
The new courses available in Dakshina Kannada keep increasing, though they are not recognized by the universities, said the office-bearers.
They further said that these students who joined such courses had also to shell out large donations, while, on the other hand, being deprived of basic amenities.
The executive committee consists of Marvis Lobo from SDM College, Rakesh from Canara College, Ranjith from Gokarnanatheshwara College, Jitesh from Sunkada Katte First-grade College, Dharmapala K from KVG Law College and Usha Roshini from St Aloysius College.
New president Dhanraj, Sharath Chandra Shetty, general secretary Zeeshan and Harish KV were present at the press meet.
