Mangaluru, Nov 13: In an attempt to create fresh trouble on a day when the district has come to a halt due to a bandh called by VHP and Bajrang Dal, some miscreants pelted stones at a mosque in Bunder here on Friday November 13.
The Bunder police led by inspector Shantaram, on the directions of higher officers swung into action, and by evening, arrested four persons.
The arrested are Nithin Shetty, Sushant, Gurukiran and Manju. Police sources said that among the four, Nithin and Gurukiran are rowdy-sheeters.
Sources said that the four persons came in Scorpio car and pelted stones at Asasul Islam Masjid at Bunder.
The miscreants pelted the stones and fled from the spot. A window pane of the mosque was damaged, while another stone hit a nearby house, said former mayor Ashraf, speaking to daijiworld.
As soon as the incident came to light, police commissioner S Murugan rushed to the spot along with a police team and took stock of the situation.
The police have appealed to the people to maintain calm and peace and not to get provoked. As news spread, people gathered at the spot in big numbers.
