India's secular fabric under threat: Manmohan Singh

New Delhi, Nov 14 (IANS): Criticising his successor Narendra Modi for pursuing "his own interests", former prime minister and Congress leader Manmohan Singh said here on Saturday that "secular values of the country are in danger".

"Secular values of the country are in danger under the present regime," Singh said while addressing a mammoth gathering at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium here.

"Wherever he (Modi) goes, he pursues his own interests," he added.

Singh said India is a country where people of all faiths live and the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government is trying to undermine the secular character of the country by trying to impose its repressive thoughts on others.

"There are powers trying to divide people. If they succeed they would harm the nation in a big way," Singh said, hinting at the Dadri lynching and a section of society asking others not to eat beef.

The former prime minister was speaking at a function organised by the Congress to mark the 125th birth anniversary of the country's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

Singh also asked the party workers to take the values, which Nehru stood for, to the people once again and save the country from divisive forces.

Yeah... I would never be surprised if Congress continue losing the way it is losing the country may be divided again. One half for their vote bank (so that they can fool and rule it's subjects) and other half for non vote banks. Mr. Modi's rule in a sane man's view is more better than your eccentric rule Mr.MMS where in even your pyjama was not safe with your corrupt ministers.

While PM Modi has been highly acclaimed by the world leaders for his leadership and visionary qualities, our opposition leaders are equally make their effort to tarnish his image. This is dangerous for the growth of our country. The secular status of the country is under threat from some political leaders who are involved in poisoning the minds of the people against BJP for grabbing power. India is known for Unity in Diversity. Definitely India is making progress in all the spheres under the regime of Modi. Let us support our PM irrespective our differences for country's sake. Jai Hind.
