Woman arrested after attempt to open flight's exit door

Washington, Nov 18 (IANS): A woman on a Boston-bound British Airways flight, who tried to open an exit door mid-flight, was taken into custody after the plane landed in Boston, police has said.

Investigation had determined that the 30-year-old woman was intoxicated, Efe news agency quoted Massachusetts State Police as saying on Tuesday.

No known nexus to terrorism was found at this time, said the police.

The police said it had been informed by British Airways that the woman was restrained for trying to enter the cockpit on Flight 213.

However, police soon made a correction, saying the suspect tried to open exit door of the plane, not the cockpit door.

The flight, which left London's Heathrow airport at 6.57 a.m. (local time) landed about half an hour ahead of schedule at Boston's Logan International Airport at 1.30 p.m. (local time).

Troops positioned on the jet bridge took the female passenger into custody, the police said, adding that she will most likely face charges of at least interfering with flight crew.
