New Delhi, Nov 19 (NDTV): From Bengaluru to Bhopal to Delhi, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind - the largest organisation of Muslims in the country - is holding protests across 75 cities. The protest is against the Islamic State that is spreading terror in the name of religion.

The protest comes with the message of solidarity for the victims of terror in Beirut as well as in Paris along with a strong condemnation of ISIS.

Shouting slogans against ISIS, holding placards saying 'ISIS does not represent me', 'ISIS is a threat to humanity', over 200 protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar in the national capital on Wednesday.

Speaking to NDTV, Maulana Mahmood Madani, General Secretary, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, said, "ISIS doesn't represent Islam. Islam doesn't support terrorism. There is no place for this jihad of ISIS in Islam. We are here to condemn what ISIS is doing across the globe - whether it is in Turkey, Beirut or Paris."

15-year-old Asif and his father Muhammad Kasim were among those who travelled from the outskirts of Delhi to take part in the protest. Mr Kasim, who comes from Mewat in Haryana, wanted his son to see for himself why he felt it was important to take part in this protest.

"We need to raise our voice now. There are so many youngsters across the world who are getting brain washed into believing falsehoods that are used as propaganda by those like ISIS. The only way to fight this is by staying united," he said.

The agitation is also an attempt to increase awareness among people on how ISIS is trying to obfuscate the meaning of Islam and religion.
