Bengaluru, Nov 22: A woman has been admitted to a hospital with serious injuries after she was knocked down by a lorry while she was trying to avoid a pothole.
Girijamma (38) is the person injured. The accident took place near Ramakrishna ashram in Basavanagudi on Saturday, November 21.
As per details, Girijamma was on her way to school on a two- wheeler to pick her children from the school. She slowed down after a seeing a pothole on the road when a concrete –mixer lorry hit her from behind. But the driver of the lorry applied brakes in time and stopped the lorry from running over Girijamma.
The doctors said that Girijamma may require multiple surgeries with her fractured leg, severely injured muscles and leg bone exposed. Girijamma also has the risk of losing her leg and being crippled for life. Girijamma’s husband Purshotham is a clerk in a private school.
The area corporator D N Ramesh blamed the driver and said there was no pothole at the place at present and the pothole which existed there was filled 15 days back. But the eyewitnesses said that the pothole was primarily responsible for the accident. Police refused to confirm anything pending investigation and have arrested the driver.
