Bengaluru, Nov 24: A Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus caught fire in the middle of the ITPL Road in Whitefield during broad daylight.

Luckily, the 30 passengers as well as the driver and conductor escaped unhurt.

The BMTC bus is believed to have caught fire while on the ITPL Road due to suspected electric short-circuit.

The driver, who noticed smoke coming out from the engine, stopped the bus and asked the passengers to immediately get down.

The bus was going towards ITPL from Majestic bus stand. Even as the passengers as well as the driver got out of the bus, fire began to engulf the bus.

Police rushed to the spot and diverted traffic to avoid more trouble.

The police also brought a water tanker to put out the fire before alerting the fire and emergency services.

But by the time help came, the bus was charred, said a senior police officer.

Based on the complaint filed by the driver, the Kadugodi police have taken up a case and are investigating.
