Udupi: ATM fraud - cheated individual files police complaint

Udupi, Nov 27: A complaint has been filed at Manipal police station near here by a person who alleged having been defrauded by a person who obtained details from him over phone.

The complainant in question, Sarvesh G B hailing from Sagar in Shivamogga district, said that he had tried to book a ticket from Manipal to Bengaluru by night bus on November 22. He said even though a sum of Rs 500 was debited to his account towards credit to Redbus account, his ticket was not confirmed. He thereafter complained to the customer service department of the company.

A person, who claimed himself to be the representative of the above company, contacted Sarvesh over phone later and told him that the previous amount would be refunded. The caller reportedly said that a fresh debit will have to be raised, and for that transaction, obtained his ATM details. Later, Sarvesh said he was surprised to find that Rs 6,500 had been withdrawn from his account by using these details.

Manipal police have registered a case and begun investigation.
