Udupi, Dec 2: MLA Pramod Madhwaraj on Wednesday December 2 officially inaugurated the two-month long 'Udupi Utsava 2015' by lighting the lamp at Royal Garden grounds here.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Madhwaraj said, "Udupi Utsava has been conducted from the last six years. The fest gives an opportunity to entertain the people of Udupi with different flavours. It also generates income for the city municipal council.
"The Royal Garden should be kept free for the historical Udupi Paryaya on January 17 and 18, 2016. A good parking space will be provided for the tourists and devotees for the historic event. I will do my best for the all round development of the district," he said.
Cultural programmes will be held on Saturday and Sunday evenings during the fest.
Many fancy shops and stalls have been put up at the venue and representatives from various states are expected to attend the fest and exhibit and sell special products.
Speaking to media persons, organizer Goutham Agarwal said, "I have been doing professional exhibition from the last 15 years. I have new concepts this year which will be put to use during the fest this season."
CMC president Yuvaraj said praised Pramod Madhwaraj and said that the MLA wants to build 25 houses for poor families from his own income.
A replica of Taj Mahal is the centre of all attraction at the event.
Amrita Krishnamurthy, vice-president, CMC, Prashant Bhat, president, standing committee, Geetha D Shet, councillor, Kadiyali ward and other councillors were present.
The entry ticket per person costs Rs 40 and there is no charge for children below five years. There is a special package for children offering six free amusement rides.
