Udupi, Dec 2: Manava Bandhutva Vedike (MBV) members held a campaign against superstitious beliefs in front of clock tower on Thursday, December 1. 

The awareness campaign against superstition, headed by excise minister Satish Jarkiholi, began last year on December 6, 2014 from Belgavi. 

This day was also observed as Dr Ambedkar Mahaparinirvan. The campaign will be continued in different parts of the state, especially in places where superstitious beliefs are in practice even today. 

Wilfred D'Souza and Buddha-Basava-Ambedkar Janajagrati Kendra headed by Ravi Naikar organized this campaign.

Speaking on the occasion, Wilfred D'Souza said, “There is a need to extend help in upbringing the deprived communities and unite all people who belong to various castes and religions. Events like this should be held on regular basis then only it can have an impact in masses”. 

“The campaign will be held regularly in rural areas where people have been gripped with several types of superstitious practices”, he said. 

“This year, the campaign is going to begin from graveyard at Sadashiv Nagar here on the occasion of 58th death anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar, the architect of Indian Constitutions. Henceforth, Ambedkar's death anniversary will be observed as 'Anti-superstition Day'”, said Wilfred.
